Air Florida Flight 90

I was riding in the car today, and my mind started to wander a bit. I started thinking about this dramatic rescue from the Air Florida Flight 90 that crashed into the Potomac River.

Reading this, it just stirs something inside.

"Skutnik was celebrated by the President at the time. He was an accountant with the IRS walking to his job, saw she was being overcome by the cold. When it aired in Texas they got a clip of these people standing on shore watching this girl drown. Then you see from the left this skinny guy dropping his coat as he runs down the bank. Like a movie."

The crash scene was almost immediately televised due to the proximity of the site to Washington news bureaus. Viewers at first saw only a hole in the ice. All but the tail section had became submerged. Only five of the 79 passengers survived the crash. Four people died, hit by the plane's tail, while in the traffic jam on the Rochambeau bridge, now named the Arland D. Williams, Jr. Memorial Bridge.

It's one of those videos that will be forever in our minds. Like sitting on my couch the morning of 9/11 and seeing the second jet hit the second tower...in an instant, I knew that it wasn't an accident and it was going to be very, very bad.
